Enriching lives through experiences
Fild are on a mission to bring users truly unique experiences from passionate hosts around the world, whilst having a positive social impact in the communities where they grew up and live.
Taking the next step
The product was still very much in its infancy with a small number of hosts using the service and it relied heavily on manual onboarding processes. Fild’s stakeholders believed the product looked lackluster compared to their aspirations and it didn’t reflect their vision.
In order to achieve user satisfaction and investor attention the product would need to be updated to provide a superior user experience and become more inviting to the potential hosts and guests.

High Level Goals
My role
Lead Product Designer responsible for the UX and UI design of the Fild platform, including user journeys, wireframes, design mockups and prototypes. Working with a Front-End Developer and the company stakeholders this was a very collaborative project with a true startup mentality to provide users with the best possible experiences with the hopes of one day being able to make a positive social impact.
Taking a step back
It was important when I started working on this project to get an idea of the high-level view of the product and understand the various processes that were involved in the user journey. The core journeys being user onboarding, becoming a host, creating experiences, finding experiences and easily booking experiences to attend.
Once these processes had been defined I then created user flow diagrams to properly map out how users would navigate the platform and how Fild could obtain important information about the published experiences.
Improving the platform
The stakeholders had said from day one that they wanted the next adaptation of their product to have a very clean and simple design, which is my design style. For a platform that would house a lot of different experiences for guests to browse and book I thought it was important that the platform didn’t distract from its content.
I looked at other platforms like Netflix, Airbnb and YouTube to see how they effectively arranged content to make the experience feel much more personalised for users. I knew I wanted there to be a lot of white space to frame the experiences, allowing them to speak for themselves and entice users with their specific imagery.
One of the key aspects of the design was to make sure users were not overwhelmed with information. For this reason a lot of thought and care was taken to make sure that when a host is creating an experience, or a guest books an experience, they do so in small steps so the processes are not difficult to complete.
The primary purples and yellows of the existing Fild branding were implemented throughout the design and used to help the user differentiate between the host and guest sections of the platform. Guest’s have yellow buttons and detailing, while hosts see purple. This would help the user easily identify if they were in guest or host view.
Use Fild anywhere
The Fild platform is a web product so it can be accessed on desktop or mobile, which means careful consideration needs to be taken to design screens that display effectively on both small and large screens sizes. There is also a native iOS app version of the platform which makes creating, scheduling and browsing even easier on mobile. This version of the design was especially important as some hosts using Fild are from low-income communities and may not have access to a desktop computer.
Fild’s mission is to enrich lives through the joy of experiences hosted by passionate people sharing what they love with others, whilst creating a richer, more diverse experiences economy. I believe that having a user friendly platform which is easy to understand and use is crucial to the success of this mission.
With the designs I have created I think that even users who are not tech savvy will be able to publish and book experiences from their preferred device. Moving forward I think it would be important for Fild to focus on accessibility design so that disabled users would be able to fully utilise the product.
